Mississippi State (1-0) will have the chance to pull off an early season upset when it hosts No. 12 Arizona State (1-0) in Week 2. Former Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron likes the Bulldogs chances particularly because of their home-field advantage.

During an appearance on CBS Sports, the 3-time BCS national champion raved about Davis Wade Stadium and head coach Jeff Lebby as factors for his reasoning.

“It’s 1 of the most underrated atmospheres in all of college football,” McCarron said. “They were never really dominant during my time there but they were always just a gritty group of guys. When they have confidence, and when that place is believing, and listen, Coach Lebby has done an unbelievable job. I think he’s 1 of the best coaches in the country. It’s hard to recruit to Starkville. That’s just the honest truth. He’s a hard-nosed guy.”

McCarron is concerned that the Sun Devils will wilt under the pressure of Mississippi State‘s mighty fans.

“I really like their chances today. That atmosphere is going to be loud. I think it’s going to be something that Arizona State’s not used to playing in,” McCarron said. “If they get those cowbells rolling over there, it’s going to be a tough game for Arizona State.”
