John Pelphrey is going to be a head coach again. The Kentucky alum who has been a fixture in the conference as an assistant at Florida (1996-2002, 2011-15) and Alabama (2016-19) and head coach at Arkansas (2007-11), has reportedly been hired as the new head coach at Tennessee Tech.
Pelphrey was on Avery Johnson’s Alabama Crimson Tide staff the past three seasons. Johnson and UA negotiated mutual parting in March after the Tide missed the Big Dance and exited the NIT in the first round. Alabama recently hired Nate Oats as its new head coach.
The last time Pelphrey coached outside the SEC was when he was head coach at South Alabama from 2002-2007. His career head coaching record is 149-126.
