Alabama baseball has named Jason Jackson its interim head coach after firing Brad Bohannon on Thursday.

Bohannon was fired for violating university standards, according to a statement from Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne. Here’s his statement:

“Greg Byrne announced he has initiated the termination process for head baseball coach Brad Bohannon for, among other things, violating the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of University employees.

“Bohannon has been relieved of all duties and Jason Jackson will serve as the interim head coach. There will be no further comment at this time pending an ongoing review.”

Jackson takes over a program that has been in the midst of a gambling investigation. Multiple states have instructed sports books to halt wagering on Alabama baseball after “suspicious” bets were placed during the Tide’s 8-6 loss to LSU last week.

It’s currently unclear if Bohannon’s firing is related to the gambling investigation.

Jackson has been on Alabama’s staff since the 2018 season. Prior to being named Alabama’s interim head coach, he served as the program’s pitching coach. He previously spent 16 years as an assistant at Florida Atlantic.

Alabama is 30-15 overall this season and is 9-12 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide are currently tied for 3rd place in the SEC West. Alabama earned a No. 3 seed in D1Baseball’s latest NCAA Tournament bracket projection.

Bohannon had been Alabama’s head coach since 2018. He led the program to 1 NCAA Tournament appearance and had an overall record of 166-124.
