Alabama basketball experienced an impressive 2022-23 season under Nate Oats, capturing the SEC title and earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Now, Oats and his staff are working on reloading the roster with key pieces leaving for the NBA. That group of departures includes star freshman Brandon Miller who is likely to be a top-3 pick in the NBA Draft.
Fortunately for the Crimson Tide, the program found one piece for the 2023-24 roster Wednesday evening. Jarin Stevenson — a 5-star power forward in the 2024 recruiting class — announced he was committing to Alabama and will reclassify to join the program for this season.
UNC and Virginia were some of the program’s Alabama beat out for Stevenson’s commitment:
I want to thank everyone who supported me and showed me love. With lots of prayer, I have decided to reclass to 2023 and play for the University of Alabama. ? #RollTide pic.twitter.com/mtzwu0sEs5

Stevenson is listed at 6-foot-10 and 200 pounds out of Seaforth High School in Pittsboro, North Carolina. According to the 247 Sports Composite, Stevenson was rated the 19th overall player and the No. 3 PF in the country for the 2024 recruiting class before reclassifying.
Alabama’s 2023-24 roster
Stevenson will join a 2023 recruiting class for Alabama that previously included a trio of 4-star recruits in PF Sam Walters, PF Mouhamed Dioubate and SF Kris Parker. Parker and Walters are top-100 prospects while Dioubate was the No. 109 player in the country.
Oats also hit the transfer portal for some pieces, adding guards Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (Cal State Fullerton) and Aaron Estrada (Hofstra) to the program. Both of those guards received a 4-star transfer rating from 247 Sports.
