Alabama is up just 14-12 against South Carolina at halftime.

The Gamecocks scored 12 points in the final couple minutes of the half after Alabama built a 14-0 lead over the course of the first half.

South Carolina scored a touchdown on a 4th and 9 play just inside of the 2-minute timeout. Then a few plays later, Jalen Milroe was called for intentional grounding in the end zone to result in a safety.

Then, after an Alabama fumble recovery, Milroe threw an interception with just a few seconds left on the clock. The pick was then returned deep into Alabama territory with just 1 second left on the clock. A field goal for South Carolina made it 14-12 going into the break.

The result was that South Carolina scored 3 times — and lost a fumble — in the span of 97 seconds to close out the half.

It’s a brutal end to the first half for Alabama, who was looking for a big bounce-back performance after losing to Vanderbilt next weekend. Instead, it seems the Tide will be playing another close game against South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

Alabama’s offense struggled in the first half, particularly after its game-opening TD drive. Alabama averaged just 4.4 yards per play in the first half as South Carolina racked up 6 tackles for loss.
