Jeremy Pruitt’s return to Alabama is working out just fine.
The defensive coordinator on Monday was named one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Pruitt was a Crimson Tide assistant from 2007-2012 before becoming the defensive coordinator at Florida State in 2013 and then Georgia in 2014.
The other candidates are Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables, Colorado defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt, Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown and Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

In his first year back in Tuscaloosa, Pruitt has engineered the nation’s best defense in three major categories: scoring defense (11.4 points per game), rushing defense (68.7 yards per game) and total defense (246.8 yards per game).
Top-ranked Alabama is the only remaining undefeated Power 5 team and will face No. 15 Florida in the SEC Championship Game this Saturday.
