Alabama is expected to be without a key defender for an extended period of time.
Deontae Lawson, who is battling an ankle injury and was described by Nick Saban as “very questionable” to play this week at Mississippi State, will be out for multiple games, BamaCentral reported. ESPN’s Chris Low reported that Lawson could miss multiple games.
Lawson this season has made 26 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and 2 sacks. Against South Florida, Lawson made a career-high 10 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and one sack.
Saban said earlier in the week that Lawson was “very questionable” to play against Mississippi State. Lawson did not practice this week, and that means that the Crimson Tide will likely insert Jihaad Campbell to start in Lawson’s place. Campbell filled in when Lawson left the Ole Miss game and finished with 7 tackles.
After Saturday’s win over Ole Miss, Saban said, “He’s got a sprained ankle. he’s gonna be day-to-day. It’s a pretty good one, so nobody knows how long it will take him to respond. That’s all I can tell you.”
Alabama faces off with Mississippi State at Davis Wade Stadium at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
