After three seasons at Alabama, defensive back Eddie Smith is considering continuing his college football career elsewhere.

On Wednesday, Smith announced he had decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The redshirt sophomore announced the news in a statement posted to his Twitter account:

I want to thank the University of Alabama and coach Saban for believing in me. I also want to thank my brothers for lifelong memories made. Although this was a tough decision, after much thought and prayer I have decided to enter the transfer portal.

A cousin of DeVonta Smith, Eddie Smith played in 10 games over the last three seasons at UA. He did not record any statistics beyond participation.

A native of Slidell, Lousiana, Smith received 25 scholarship offers coming out of Salmen High School as a 3-star prospect on the 247Sports Composite. His offer list included Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

He is the third member of the 2020 Crimson Tide team to enter the transfer portal. Ishmael Sopsher and Kevin Harris entered the portal during the season.
