The Alabama-Florida game on Saturday drew huge numbers for CBS Sports. According to a press release from the network, these were the largest numbers for an SEC on CBS opener in 8 years.

The game, which pit No. 1 against No. 11, drew almost 8 million viewers (7.863), which is up 76% from last year.

Last year’s opener, which was Mississippi State vs. LSU, drew a little over half of that at 4.464 million viewers. Alabama appears a lot on the network and in fact, it is slated to be featured in 2 weeks in the 3:30 p.m. Eastern time slot once again, this time against Ole Miss.

This game last year was an exciting one with Alabama defeating the Rebels, 63-48. It was a back and forth contest between the two, with the Tide pulling away finally in the fourth quarter.

Coming into this year, both teams seem to be on a collision course in Tuscaloosa with both coming into this contest with Heisman hopefuls at quarterback in Bryce Young and Matt Corral.

So, expect big numbers for the Week 5 game as well.
