One of the most exciting news items for Alabama fans (and college football fans in general) is often when their beloved team announces new and exciting opponents in the future. These new games can take the form of high profile kickoff games, home-and-home series set far off in the future, and of course, the occasional cupcake matchup to round out the schedule.
The Alabama football program has made some additions to its future schedules recently.
New Alabama Football Schedule Updates
Alabama recently added USC to its 2020 schedule with an opener at AT&T Stadium. Of course, this game is a rematch of the 2016 opener which was also played in Arlington, TX.
The Crimson Tide also recently added a home-and-home series against Texas for the 2022-23 seasons.
Lastly, Alabama also added Central Michigan as an opponent for the 2023 football season.
Nick Saban and Alabama have been big fans of high profile kickoff games, but recent moves indicate maybe that Saban is leaning more towards future home-and-home series matchups.
Based on current rules, all SEC teams currently schedule eight conference games which is made up of six divisional games and two cross-divisional game. One cross-divisional game is a permanent matchup and the other rotates between the other teams in the other division. Alabama plays Tennessee from the east every season.
The College Football Playoff selection committee has urged teams to improve non-conference scheduling and a lot of teams have followed suit. Many of the recent scheduling announcements for the major college football programs are in response to the College Football Playoff committee’s emphasis on quality scheduling.
Alabama’s next three games are: vs. Louisville (in Orlando, FL) on Saturday, Sep. 1, vs. Arkansas State on Saturday, Sep. 8 and at Ole Miss on Saturday, Sep. 15.
Alabama finished the 2017 football season with 13-1 record and a national championship. The only loss of the season came against Auburn.
