The Alabama Board of Trustees have given Lane Kffin a big raise, but only a brief extension.
AL.com’s Michael Casagrande reports that Kiffin will be paid $1.4 million for a period that started on July 1 and ends Feb. 28, 2017. Kiffin’s contract was extended in a literal sense, but he is not currently signed on to coach Alabama for the 2017 season.
The new pay agreement covers the period following the end of USC’s buyout payments, which concluded on June 30. Kiffin was previously paid $680,000 by Alabama for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and $714,000 this season, while also collecting payments on a $2.7 million buyout from Southern Cal. At $1.4 million, his salary has roughly doubled.
Kiffin is now Alabama’s highest-paid assistant, topping defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt’s salary of $1 million. The new agreement also makes him college football’s highest-paid offensive coordinator.
