These are dark, dark times in Tuscaloosa.

And perhaps nothing better epitomizes that than the fact that the Alabama football program has a losing record for the first time since December of 2006.

That year saw the Crimson Tide fall to 6-7 following a bowl loss to Oklahoma State, prompting the school to hire Nick Saban the following week.

Now, following a disappointing 31-17 defeat at the hands of Florida State on Saturday, the Crimson Tide sit below .500 for the first time since that fateful Independence Bowl loss. That reality leaves many to wonder whether or not a coaching change will follow suit, much like it did 19 years ago.

Since Saban took over following the 2006 campaign, Alabama has only flirted with a .500 season once, and that was a 7-6 campaign in ’07. Otherwise, the program enjoyed double-digit win seasons up until Kalen DeBoer took over in 2024.

DeBoer is now in desperate need of a turnaround to cool his hot seat, and that’s being said with SEC play having not even begun. The Crimson Tide host UL-Monroe and Wisconsin before a bye week, giving them a chance to correct Saturday’s many errors before a pivotal showdown with Georgia on Sept. 27.
