Alabama and Nick Saban have finalized (for the moment) the Tide’s coaching staff for 2022, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, and it’s former Georgia quarterback in Joe Cox. However, Cox will coach the Tide’s tight ends.
“Sources tell @ClowESPN, @Mark_Schlabach and me that Alabama is expected to hire Joe Cox as the schools new tight ends coach. Cox is the tight ends coach at Charlotte and a former assistant at South Carolina (WR) and Colorado State (TE),” Thamel wrote on Twitter.
Drew Svoboda was Alabama’s tight ends coach and special teams coordinator last season. The Tide recently hired Coleman Hutzler away from Ole Miss to serve as the special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach. Svoboda was then listed as the tight ends coach on the team’s website, but as Thamel indicates, Alabama is bringing in Cox to replace Svoboda.
Cox has coached tight ends at Colorado State, South Carolina and Charlotte.
In addition to Hutzler, Alabama made the hires of Travaris Robinson (cornerbacks) and Eric Wolford (offensive line) official Wednesday.
The last 4 hires Alabama has made — Cox, Hutzler, Robinson and Wolford — coached for Will Muschamp on South Carolina’s staff.
