Alabama cornerback Domani Jackson was carted off the field in the second quarter of Saturday’s home game against South Carolina.

Jackson stayed down after tackling Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers. He was helped off the field by Alabama’s medical staff while struggling to put much weight on his right leg. He went straight to the medical tent and later left the field on a cart with a towel draped over his head.

Jaylen Mbakwe replaced Jackson at cornerback after the injury. He is flanked by Zabien Brown, meaning Alabama will be rolling with 2 freshman cornerbacks so long as Jackson remains out. DaShawn Jones is another option for the Tide, while freshman Zay Mincey could also see snaps if needed.

Jackson is a former 5-star recruit who began his career at USC and transferred into the Alabama program this offseason. He’s the Crimson Tide’s most veteran cornerback and has been a key piece of the defense through the first 6 weeks of the season.

He has 18 tackles in his first 6 games for the Tide, as well as 3 pass breakups and an interception. That pick came in the huge win over Georgia on Sept. 28.

Alabama had a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. A week after a shocking loss to Vanderbilt, the Crimson Tide have another fight on their hands.

Update (2:00 p.m. ET):

Jackson returned to the game in the third quarter for Alabama.
