The Alabama coaching staff has selected 10 players as Players of the Week following the Crimson Tide’s 41-23 victory over Colorado State. The school released the list on Monday.
It was a big day for Alabama’s offense as the Crimson Tide scored 41 points for the second straight week. QB Jalen Hurts, RBs Damien Harris and Bo Scarbrough, and OL Bradley Bozeman were named Players of the Week for their efforts Saturday.
Hurts had a big day as he completed 12 of 17 passes and accounted for 351 yards of total offense and 3 TDs. He also posted his second straight game with 100 yards rushing. Harris and Scarbrough did the heavy lifting for the Tide’s backfield. The duo combined for 182 yards of total offense and 2 TDs. Bozeman was the standout for an O-line that paved the way for 239 rushing yards Saturday. Bozeman graded out at 87% while also contributing four knockdown blocks.
The defensive Players of the Week were LB Keith Holcombe, DL Da’Ron Payne, and DB Levi Wallace. Holcombe provided a boost for an injury-riddle LB unit by finishing with a career-high nine tackles and a pass breakup. Wallace recorded five tackles and accounted for four pass breakups. Payne was an anchor the the Tide’s defensive front and finished the evening with six tackles.
The special teams unit had three players receive Player of the Week honors in K Andy Pappanastos, P JK Scott, and LB Mack Wilson. Pappanastos was perfect on his attempts Saturday with five extra points and two field goals. He set a new career-long with a 46-yard field goal. Scott only punted twice, but the total yardage on his punts was 100 yards for a 50-yard average. Both punts were also downed inside the 20-yard line. Wilson was a member of the punt coverage unit that did not allow any return yardage on Scott’s punts.
