Alabama OC Mike Locksley names offense’s biggest strength for 2018

Alabama’s offensive and defensive coordinators get to meet with the media a couple teams during the season.
One of those times is during the team’s media day, and Saturday was that day for the Tide.
Nick Saban kicked things off first, and then, offensive coordinator Mike Locksley followed him. Locksley was pretty tight-lipped about the quarterback battle — putting it more on Saban’s shoulders to make a decision, but as good as Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa certainly are, it’s not the offensive unit’s biggest strength, according to Locksley.
“The running back group, to me, is probably the strength of our offensive unit,” Locksley said, via the team’s livestream.
This group is certainly loaded with talent, and it creates a four-headed monster. Senior Damien Harris returns to lead this unit. Harris has racked up nearly 2,200 yards rushing and 14 TDs in three seasons. Najee Harris, Josh Jacobs and Brian Robinson Jr. are the trio that combine with Harris to create arguably the deepest backfield in college football.
When asked whether he’ll try to use all of them, Locksley’s response was telling.
“I’d be an idiot not to find ways to get those guys involved,” he said.
So, no matter if Hurts or Tagovailoa start at QB, Locksley and Alabama’s offense is going to rely on its dominant running game.
