Nick Sheridan was quick to praise true freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams while speaking with reporters on Monday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

Williams, who re-classified up a year to join Alabama for the 2024 season, had an excellent debut in Week 1 against Western Kentucky. He caught 2 passes for 139 yards and scored touchdowns on both of those receptions — including an 84-yarder.

His performance was good enough to land him co-freshman of the week honors from the SEC alongside Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava. It also earned him some high praise from his offensive coordinator.

Sheridan emphasized how coachable Williams has been throughout the offseason and said he’s hoping the 17-year-old will build on his performance vs. the Hilltoppers moving forward.

“He loves football,” Sheridan said. “He loves to work. He’s willing to be coached. I think he’s hungry to continue to build off of what he did in the first game.

“We’re excited to try to help him get better.”

Alabama is searching for a surefire No. 1 wide receiver for this offense, and Williams may fit the bill in that regard. He was the No. 4 overall prospect in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Alabama will host South Florida in Week 2.
