Alabama will be in action against Indiana in a quarterfinal matchup in the College Football Playoff on Thursday, but the Crimson Tide are still dealing with players opting out and entering the transfer portal.
While the portal doesn’t officially open until Jan. 2, players are already letting it be known that they are entering. For the Crimson Tide, former 4-star offensive lineman Roq Montgomery will be transferring from Alabama.
Montgomery is from Anniston, Alabama, and he announced that he was committing to Alabama on July 4, 2022. He had offers from many of the other top teams in the SEC, with schools like Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia and Ole Miss among many other schools across the country interested in him.
According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he was the No. 22 prospect in the state, and the No. 25 interior offensive lineman in the class.
During his time at Alabama, he played in 14 career games, and he will have three years of eligibility remaining.
With how the college football calendar is set up, guys are having to make these decisions, even if their team is still left in the CFP. Montgomery figures to have a lot of interested across the country when schools can start going after guys on Friday.
