Alabama on the verge of establishing yet another impressive historical feat
Alabama’s 48-14 victory over Mercer on Saturday wasn’t a surprise to anyone. If anything, most observers expected the final score to be even more lopsided.
The win moved Nick Saban to 11-0 all-time against FCS opponents as the Crimson Tide’s coach with the average margin of victory being more than 40 points.
As SEC analyst Cole Cubelic pointed out Sunday morning on Twitter, the victory was also Alabama’s 99th consecutive against an unranked team, and no team in the AP Poll era has ever had won 100 in a row against unranked opponents.
Alabama has now won 99 straight games vs unranked opponents.

Alabama won’t get the chance to accomplish that feat this coming weekend, as it heads to Gainesville to face a ranked Florida squad. But the Tide should have the opportunity to reach that mark on Sept. 25 at home against Southern Mississippi.
Also of note from Saturday’s win against Mercer, it was the 28th consecutive game in which Alabama has scored at least 30 points.
UCF holds the current FBS record for consecutive 30-point games with 31, coming from 2017-19.
Alabama has now scored 30+ points in 28 straight games. 3 behind UCF from 2017-2019 for the longest steak all time.
