After a remarkable 1st half of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith was forced to exit the game in the early stages of the 2nd half after an apparent hand injury.
Smith was shown on the ESPN broadcast getting treatment in the Crimson Tide medical tent, where he remained for much of the quarter. He was then taken to the Alabama locker room for further evaluation.
According to ESPN’s Allison Williams per Alabama media relations, Smith has been ruled “questionable” to return as a result of his injury. The Crimson Tide, though, appeared to be undaunted, scoring with just under 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter to take a 45-24 lead.
While Alabama is facing the possibility of playing out the remainder of the game without its star wide receiver, it holds a sizeable lead and will look to see things out against the Buckeyes to add yet another championship trophy to its ledger. But the possibility of Smith seeing his final college game cut short due to injury is certainly a disappointing turn.
