Alabama punter JK Scott registered better 40 time for NFL scouts than LSU’s Arden Key

Curious to know how a player can have his stock plummet leading up to the NFL draft? Displaying slower speed than a punter is a good place to start.
Last month Alabama punter JK Scott turned in an impressive time in the 40, considering his position, by registering a 4.83-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. The picture below shows Scott’s unofficially with a time of 4.84 but his official time was later listed at 4.83.
That was best among all specialists at the combine this year.

LSU outside linebacker/defensive end did not run at the combine, instead deciding to wait for LSU’s Pro Day event, which was held on Wednesday. Based on the time he registered, it appears Key should have waited a little bit longer.
The Tigers’ pass rush specialist turned in disappointing 40 times of 4.85- and 4.87-seconds. Only two designated edge rushers ran that slow at this year’s NFL combine.

Considering every millisecond counts when rushing the passer in the NFL, those times are likely going to hurt Key moving forward. With his draft stock already on shaky ground, Ed Orgeron felt the need to defend Key during his latest media availability, the former Tiger defender has some work to do if he plans on hearing his name called early in the upcoming draft.
