Alabama QB commit excited to work with new OC Steve Sarkisian

By hiring assistant coach Steve Sarkisian as Alabama’s new offensive coordinator, head coach Nick Saban didn’t shake things up too much.

With Lane Kiffin leaving for FAU after the College Football Playoff, Sarkisian will provide the program with some continuity, which many 2017 recruits will enjoy.

Four-star pro-style QB Mac Jones’s father, Gordon, told AL.com that his son is excited to get to work with the new offensive coordinator:

“He is eager to get on board and start training and competing with the best at ‘Bama,” Gordon Jones said. “This 2017 class rocks, and the current team is setting the standard that all incoming recruits will have to live up to.”

Alabama’s 2017 class does rock, especially at the quarterback position. Fellow four-star QB Tua Tagovailoa is the No. 1 overall dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2017 and Jones is the class’s No. 14 overall pro-style quarterback.

With this year’s starter, Jalen Hurts, only a freshman, the quarterback battle this spring will be a fierce one for the Crimson Tide and Sarkisian.

However, Gordon Jones said his son is simply excited to come to Tuscaloosa and work with some of the game’s best coaches:

“We look forward to meeting and having Mac get the opportunity to continue his football development with coach Sarkisian,” Gordon Jones said.

According to the article, Jones isn’t likely to be an early enrollee like Tagovailoa, so he’ll have to wait to join the program until next summer.
