Alabama seeks to join exclusive club of SEC teams with win over Mizzou
Life ain’t easy in the SEC. Last year, we saw that even the conference’s modern dynasty (Alabama) could lose to the — perceived as such at the time — worst program in the league (Vanderbilt) on any given Saturday. The Crimson Tide exacted retribution for that loss in Week 6 this season. Now, because of that victory, they have their eyes set on an impressive feat.
According to SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic, only 4 teams in SEC history have beaten 3 ranked conference foes in 3 consecutive weeks without a bye. If Alabama can defeat No. 14 Missouri in Week 7 (Oct. 11), it’d become the fifth squad to do so.
The Crimson Tide began this stretch of games against ranked opponents in Athens, where they beat Georgia 24-21. The win ended the Bulldogs’ 33-game home winning streak. They followed up with a 30-14 home victory over Vandy last weekend. Toppling Missouri on the road would etch their team into the record books.
Alabama may have a good omen for the game. The Tigers, as a result of the Crimson Tide beating Georgia 2 weeks ago, hold the SEC’s longest home winning streak (15 games). Knocking off the team with the longest home winning streak in-conference twice in 3 weeks is an incredibly tall task, but Kalen DeBoer’s bunch has some extra motivation, courtesy of the SEC’s scheduling of these big matchups.
If Alabama can get through Missouri, they’ll likely have a chance to make it 4 straight wins in 4 weekends over ranked opponents when hosting currently No. 12 Tennessee. That’s next week’s concern, though. Right now, the Crimson Tide’s focus is solely on the Tigers. Kickoff between Alabama and Missouri is set for noon ET (ABC).
