Alabama Sports Hall of Fame announces induction date for Sylvester Croom

Sylvester Croom, the former Mississippi State head coach and the first Black head football coach in SEC history, was also an All-American offensive lineman in 1974 playing for Alabama.

Now, the retired coach, who spent parts of 5 decades in the coaching industry between college and the NFL, is getting honored by his home state.

As you can see below, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame announced on Saturday via Twitter that Croom would be inducted next weekend:

That’s a big honor for the longtime coach, who ended his coaching career after Mike Vrabel took over as the Tennessee Titans head coach (he had previously been the Titans’ RB coach).
