Alabama starting lineman to enter transfer portal, per report
Transfer-portal attrition continues to strike around the SEC, and Alabama became the latest victim Sunday.
Kalen DeBoer & Co. have shifted their focus towards gearing up for a pivotal 2026 campaign following the program’s disappointing Rose Bowl loss against Indiana, but a key cog up front won’t be joining the Crimson Tide next year.
Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel’s reporting, Alabama starting right tackle Wilkin Formby has entered the transfer portal after starting 14 games this past season. Formby also started twice in 2024 and has played over 1,000 snaps across 27 games.
The move is made especially notable by the fact that Formby is a Tuscaloosa native, as the 6-foot-7 tackle attended local Northridge High School. The redshirt sophomore bided his time in 2023 before becoming a rotational contributor in 2024. Then, Formby carved out a starting role for himself in 2025 and was one of the most reliable lineman DeBoer’s offense put on the field.
With two more years of eligibility and plenty of high-quality experience, Formby figures to be a hot commodity in the transfer portal market. Meanwhile, the Alabama coaching staff may now have to do even more shopping for offensive-line help this portal season, as an already maligned unit is expected to take major steps forward in 2026.
