Alabama had a white-knuckle affair on Saturday in Austin, Texas, and it included knocking out Longhorns star QB Quinn Ewers, who suffered a left shoulder injury late in the first quarter.

In the end, Alabama got a late field goal to pull off a 20-19 victory.

Before he left, Ewers was 9 of 12 passing for 134 yards and completed a 46-yard throw to Xavier Worthy that set up a touchdown that tied the game at 10-10. Alabama’s Dallas Turner landed on Ewers on the play and the Alabama defender received a personal foul.

Ewers began his career at Ohio State, then transferred to Texas and won the starting job in recent weeks over Hudson Card. Card came in and went 13-for-21 passing for 128 yards. He also added 8 rushing yards.

With 1:29 remaining, Bert Auburn hit a 49-yard field goal to give Texas a 2-point lead. That came after Will Anderson Jr. delivered a sack to stop Texas’ drive. It was an 8-play, 44-yard drive that took 2:26 after Alabama was stopped on downs. The late Texas field goal had college football fans salivating about the irony of a man named Auburn beating Alabama.

But Bryce Young began the drive with 1:24 remaining, and made several key plays, including a scramble where he ran for 20 yards, and stepped out of bounds at the Texas 17-yard line.

As Joel Klatt said on the FOX Sports broadcast, “Texas left too much time on the clock for a great player, and he drove his team down into field-goal range.”

It was a 9-play, 61-yard drive and Alabama scored in 1:19.

Here’s a sampling of the fans and media reaction:
