Alabama’s defense against Tennessee’s high-powered offense looked to be a strength vs. strength matchup heading into the Third Saturday in October matchup. In the 1st quarter of the top-10 showdown on Rocky Top, the Vols won that matchup in a major way.
While Alabama outgained Tennessee 155-151 in total yardage, big plays went UT’s way. On just 4:16 time of possession, Tennessee scored 21 points in the first quarter.
CBS Sports points out that you have to go back to 2019 to find a quarter in which the Crimson Tide defense surrendered 21 points. It was in a game Alabama fans would like to forget, the 2019 LSU game in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama has added a field goal in the second quarter, making it a 21-10 game.
Nick Saban’s squad has a long time to chip away at the deficit, but Pete Golding’s unit will need to make some adjustments after an abysmal start. The Vols have already added another TD, making it 28-10.
The game is currently airing on CBS.
