Alabama WR DeVonta Smith’s Week 5 performance for the record books has earned him some national recognition.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Smith as its Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive Player of the Week:

Smith had 11 receptions for 274 yards and five touchdowns as second-ranked Alabama (5-0) defeated Ole Miss, 59-31. Smith’s receiving yards and touchdowns set school records, and his five touchdowns also tied a SEC single-game mark.

Notes: Smith is the 15th Alabama player to receive Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004, and the third receiver to earn the honor, joining Christion Jones (9/1/13) and Amari Cooper(11/30/14).

The 2019 season marks the 16th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation has honored one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation, per the announcement.

Smith’s big game came on a day when fellow elite Crimson Tide pass-catcher Henry Ruggs III was limited due to a hip pointer. Smith helped QB Tua Tagovailoa break two Alabama touchdown records (career and single-game) on Saturday. Tagovailoa had a perfect passer rating when targeting Smith against Ole Miss, according to PFF.
