Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick, Georgia’s Roquan Smith finalists for Bronko Nagurski Trophy

Two SEC defenders are being recognized for remarkable seasons as finalists for the 2017 Bronko Nagurski Trophy.
Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick and Georgia LB Roquan Smith were named among the five finalists for the prestigious award. Both Alabama and Georgia are having incredible seasons led by strong defenses, and both players are incredibly deserving of recognition.
Fitzpatrick has 44 total tackles with 5.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble this year. He is a versatile defender who continues to line up at multiple positions for the Tide.
Smith has been a nightmare for opposing offenses to deal with this season. He has 82 total tackles, 4.5 TFL, and 2.5 sacks with a forced fumble for the Bulldogs.
Other finalists for the award are N.C. State DE Bradley Chubb, Iowa LB Josey Jewell, and Houston DT Ed Oliver.
The award is given annually to the nation’s best defensive player regardless of position. The Nagurski Trophy shared the finalists on Twitter:
