Former South Carolina and current Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery returned to practice Tuesday after missing several days due to a hamstring injury, according to NBC Sports. However, his status for Thursday’s preseason opener against the Denver Broncos is still questionable.
Jeffery told reporters that he’s feeling better and downplayed his current injury being linked to several others that forced him to miss seven games in 2015. However, the Bears may still take caution regarding his availability for Thursday’s game.
The former pro bowler said he’ll wait to hear what the coaches decide, but hopes to see the field during preseason even if it’s not this week.
“It’s always good to get on the same page in the preseason,” Jeffery said, via the Chicago Tribune. “So it can carry over to the regular season.”
Head coach John Fox said “everybody needs some” action during preseason, which suggests that Jeffery will play if he is medically cleared.
Jeffery injured his calf last offseason, which forced him to miss the entire preseason and then hurt his hamstring after returning to action in the season opener. He was limited to 54 receptions, 807 yards and four touchdowns in nine games.
