Amari Daniels, Texas A&M RB from Florida, says Lone Star Showdown is ‘100 times’ FSU-Miami rivalry
Amari Daniels grew up in South Florida, starring at Miami Central High, so he was raised in the heart of the Miami-Florida State rivalry.
There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but there’s also nothing wrong with the rivalry that he’s lived as a Texas A&M Aggie since he entered the program in 2021. Now in his 5th year in the program, the Aggies’ bitter rivalry with Texas has grown on him and made quite an impression on him.
It’s that time of year again, of course, and so after No. 3 Texas A&M laid it on thick against Samford on Saturday in a 48-0 beatdown to improve to 11-0 on the season, Daniels told reporters exactly what he thinks about the Lone Star Showdown. He didn’t beat around the bush about how it compares to Miami-FSU either, even as a South Florida kid.
“It’s like (FSU and Miami), but 100 times that,” said Daniels about how Texas A&M-Texas dwarfs that of the Canes and Seminoles, at least in his view.
Daniels enjoyed a fine afternoon in the leisurely victory on Saturday, rushing 9 times for 106 yards and a touchdown. Now it’s time for the 5-8 senior from Miami to get ready for the rivalry that has taken over his life as a college football player. The Aggies and Horns will lock horns in Austin next Friday night in a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC.
Nothing against the rivalry that was so much a part of his childhood, of course, but Daniels will be ready again for the rivalry he believes is so much better.
