Toney has been one of the numerous weapons for the Chiefs’ offense, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes II. He caught a 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVII to help Kansas City defeat the Philadelphia Eagles.
Toney was originally drafted by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft in the first round; 20th overall pick. He caught 39 receptions for 420 yards and no touchdowns in his rookie season.
His frustration with his role on the Giants developed over the offseason and into the 2022 NFL season. Toney played in 2 games where he caught 2 receptions for 0 yards. Toney was traded before the 2022 NFL trade deadline to Kansas City in exchange for a third and sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Toney would catch 14 receptions for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns in 7 games in the regular season for Kansas City.
