Anthony Edwards has been rounding into a star as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, the former Georgia Bulldog is reportedly cashing in with a massive long-term extension.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Edwards and the Timberwolves have agreed to a 5-year designated rookie maximum contract. That deal could be worth $260 million for the former No. 1 overall pick.

“I’m humbled, appreciative and excited to remain in Minnesota as a part of this incredible Timberwolves organization,” Edwards said in a statement per Wojnarowski. “It’s amazing to see where hard work can take you.”

As a part of the deal, Edwards is also introducing a new initiative in Minnesota. Titled “Don’t Follow the Wave,” Edwards says the goal is “to do everything I can to help as many young people as I can and help set them on the right path.”

Anthony Edwards’ career accomplishments

In his first NBA season, Edwards averaged 19.3 points to go with 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists while being named to the All-Rookie team. He has improved every season in the NBA and was named an All-Star a season ago while averaging 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals. Those were career-high numbers across the boarding including a career-best 37% shooting from 3-point range.

During his one season at Georgia, Edwards averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs went 16-16 overall and missed out on the NCAA Tournament.
