LSU’s 17-3 win over Stony Brook Friday night was one for the books.
The Tigers made it 30 straight wins in regional openers, an NCAA record. Landon Marceaux joined Aaron Nola as the only LSU freshmen pitchers to start and win an NCAA postseason opener. The fans at Alex Box Stadium were most excited to see Antoine Duplantis make Tigers history.
Duplantis recorded his 352nd hit as a Tiger on Friday night, tying him with Dr. Eddy Furniss for the school career hits record. The record-tying hit came in the bottom of the fifth inning and he did not record another hit for the rest of the game. With LSU in the winner’s bracket of the regional, Duplantis should be getting plenty more plate appearances and chances to record hit No. 353. The Tigers return to the diamond at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) Saturday.
