Kentucky basketball is representing Team USA at GLOBL JAM this week, a worldwide basketball tournament hosted in Canada. Wildcats fans got to take an early sneak peek into the progress their team has made so far this offseason about 3 months out from the start of the regular season.

And the Wildcats came away with an opening win against Team Germany Wednesday despite falling behind in the early-going. It was the Wildcats’ veteran players – WVU transfer Tre Mitchell and returner Antonio Reeves – who catapulted Kentucky to the win with a combined 44 points.

Reeves led the way for Kentucky with 24 points, adding 4 rebounds with 3-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats saw some solid performances DJ Wagner and Adou Thiero in place for Aaron Bradshaw and Ugonna Onyenso, both of whom are suffering from injuries. Thiero totaled 9 points with an important 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Wagner was probably Kentucky’s most impressive freshman on Wednesday, finishing with 16 points, 6 assists and a pair of steals. The Wildcats in general played very well defensively, with their initial defense out of the halftime break serving as the catalyst for their dominant 2nd half performance.

The Wildcats will face off against Team Canada tomorrow, Thursday July 13.
