The AP Top 25 for Week 8 has been released.

Texas retained its No. 1 overall ranking in the poll this week after it beat No. 18 Oklahoma in Dallas 34-3. The Longhorns will now gear up to face No. 5 Georgia in Austin this weekend. Texas and Georgia are once again the only SEC teams ranked in the top 5.

Elsewhere in the SEC, Alabama and Tennessee both skated by with narrow home wins this weekend against South Carolina and Florida, respectively. Alabama remained in the top 10 at No. 7, but the Vols slid down 3 spots to No. 11.

LSU made a big jump up from No. 13 to No. 8 this week following its overtime victory over an Ole Miss team that is now ranked 18th. The Tigers appear to be right back in the mix for a potential CFP berth as they’ve won 5 in a row since losing to USC.

In the Big Ten, Oregon moved up to No. 2 this week and garnered 6 first-place votes as well. The Ducks now have arguably the best win of any team in the country in 2024 as they beat Ohio State at home on Saturday.

The Buckeyes remained in the top 5, though, at No. 4. A third Big Ten team, Penn State, also retained its top-5 status after beating USC on the road this week.

Indiana, Illinois and Michigan also held on to their top-25 spots this week. Nebraska nearly cracked the top-25 this week, but ended up in the “receiving votes” section once again.

It’s worth noting that both Army and Navy are ranked going into Week 8. Each of those service academies are undefeated on the season so far.
