Appalachian State is the latest school to announce it would not play its scheduled football game this weekend because of the impending arrival of Hurricane Florence off of the Atlantic Coast.

At least five other college football games set for this weekend have been moved or rescheduled.

Southern Miss was scheduled to play Saturday, but App State officials said it would not be played this weekend in Boone, North Carolina because of increasing concerns associated with Hurricane Florence.

“While the scope of the storm’s impact in the High Country is still unknown, university officials have worked in partnership with Southern Miss and emergency management personnel to reach a decision that is in the best interests of the safety and well-being of fans, student-athletes and game day personnel,” the school said in a statement.

Officials from both schools are exploring options to reschedule the game.
