Matchup between unbeaten Group of 5 teams selected by CBS to fill open ‘SEC on CBS’ time slot
We’ve only got one Saturday remaining on the college football calendar before the Southeastern Conference returns to the field which means CBS had to find a game to showcase during the 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT time slot this weekend.
Well, the decision is in, and CBS is going with a matchup few could have seen coming entering the season.
This Saturday, 1-0 Appalachian State is set to face 1-0 Marshall in the nationally televised spot. The news was announced on Tuesday.
Appalachian State opened the season with a 35-20 win over Charlotte while Marshall beat Eastern Kentucky 59-0.
The Mountaineers hold the all-time lead in this series with a 14-8 record against the Thundering Herd but Marshall has won the previous two games in the series. The previous matchup came in 2002, in a matchup won by Marshall 50-17.
While it may not be an SEC game, this matchup should rate fairly high in terms of entertainment before next weekend’s showdown between LSU and Mississippi State is featured by CBS in the 3:30 p.m. ET time slot.
