Arch Manning struggled in Texas‘s Week 1 loss to Ohio State, going just 17-of-30 for 170 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.
After the Longhorns started off their home opener in Week 2 against San Jose State with a pair of punts, though, Manning delivered a long-range strike to open the scoring.
Following a pair of runs by Christian Clark, Texas faced a third-and-3 at its own 17. But Manning stepped back and fired toward the left sideline to an open Parker Livingstone, who took it all the way for an 83-yard touchdown as the Longhorns took a 7-0 lead.
Here’s the video:
The Manning-Livingstone connection came through again after Jaylon Guilbeau came up with an interception of Walker Eget after the ensuing kickoff. Five plays later, Manning capped off a short scoring drive with a 3-yard throw to Livingstone as the lead swelled to 14-0.
Coming off a second straight appearance in the College Football Playoff and with Manning taking the reins behind center, Texas entered the season ranked No. 1 in the preseason polls. However, it fell 14-7 to Ohio State to become the first preseason No. 1 team to fall in a season opener in 35 years.
But after a slow start in Austin against the Spartans, the Longhorns look to have found their stride behind a pair of late 1st quarter touchdowns.
