When you look at a map, it does seem strange that Mizzou — one of the western-most teams in the SEC — plays in the East division.

Though moving Mizzou to the SEC West and flipping Auburn to the East was a big topic of discussion at SEC Media Days this year, Arkansas AD Jeff Long waited until Wednesday to weigh in on the matter.

Speaking with radio host Bo Mattingly, Long said he thinks it makes sense travel-wise to have Missouri in the SEC West:

As Long notes, Columbia is the closest SEC city to Fayetteville. Though the Hogs and Tigers already play every year as cross-division rivals, Long said there’s no reason to keep Mizzou in the East.

Commissioner Greg Sankey hasn’t given much thought to the matter, but as noise continues to build around it, it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the coming years.
