Arkansas sets all-time program record for penalties in loss to Mississippi State
Throughout the 2025 college football season, the Arkansas Razorbacks have gotten in their own way. However, what they pulled off in Saturday’s 38-35 loss to Mississippi State was truly historic.
The Razorbacks were penalized a program-record 18 times for 193 yards versus the Bulldogs in Week 10. The incredible number of infractions — and large number of yards — undoubtedly played a role in them dropping the contest after holding a 14-point lead in the final quarter, but interim coach Bobby Petrino doesn’t believe his team is to blame for all the whistles.
“[I] want to say something, but I can’t. That’s how they handcuff you,” Petrino said postgame, via Whole Hog Sports. “I’ve never had that in my entire life, and I do know this: If you look back at our games, we’re not a highly penalized team. We’ve done a nice job all year long of not having a lot of penalties.”
Entering Saturday’s action, the Razorbacks’ turnover differential against FBS opponents was a whopping negative-10. They won the turnover battle 1-0 this weekend, but didn’t get the W where it mattered most.
Arkansas now stands at 2-7 (0-5 SEC) with 3 games remaining this season. The Razorbacks have a bye next weekend, then face LSU in Baton Rouge on Nov. 15.
