Army and Navy are both ranked this week for the first time in decades.

Army is No. 23 in this week’s poll while Navy just barely cracked the list at No. 25. Each of those service academies boasts an undefeated record through 7 weeks of the 2024 season.

According to the Associated Press, it’s the first time since 1960 that both Army and Navy have appeared in the same poll.

This is just the sixth season that Army has appeared in the top 25 since 1960. It’s only the third season this century. The Black Knights were also ranked during the 2020 and 2018 campaigns under Jeff Monken.

Navy hasn’t been ranked since 2019. The Midshipmen have been ranked a bit more often over the last 60 years or so, but it’s still rarity for them to be include in the top-25.

Because Army and Navy are both in the American Athletic Conference now, it’s possible they will meet twice this season. Army and Navy could play in the AAC title game and then a week later in the official Army-Navy game.

It’s also possible for one (or both) of these programs to make the College Football Playoff in 2024.
