Assessing Mississippi State’s 2015 class a week before signing day

Less than 10 days removed from National Signing Day, the Mississippi State Bulldogs have maintained a top 20 recruiting class nationally, according to the 247Sports industry composite rankings.
Six players in the class have already signed their letters of intent, including three four-star prospects, and those six players all enrolled early at MSU at the beginning of the month. Among the other 22 prospects currently committed to Mississippi State, three more are four-star recruits, giving Mississippi State a potentially star-studded class if it can maintain those commitments.
One of those four-star commitments, safety Jamal Peters (regarded as a top 100 player in the nation), is slated to visit Starkville this weekend on the final weekend before National Signing Day, and if he remains committed to Dan Mullen, Manny Diaz and the Bulldogs, it would cement MSU’s class as one of its best in recent memory.
Peters will also visit LSU and new defensive coordinator Kevin Steele before the end of the month.
Among the more than 20 players that have made visits to Mississippi State since the recent recruiting dead period was listed, only one player was regarded as better than a three-star prospect (Ole Miss linebacker commit Leo Lewis). It does not seem likely that Lewis, a Brookhaven, Miss., native, will flip his commitment.
However, the Bulldogs are regarded as a favorite to land fellow in-state recruit and four-star offensive lineman Tommy Champion when all is said and done this recruiting season.
Take a look at how Mississippi State’s current 2015 recruiting class breaks down as National Signing Day draws near:
