EDITOR’S NOTE: Saturday Down South’s references to recruiting rankings are to 247Sports.com industry composite ranking.
With just a few weeks to go before National Signing Day, LSU is still working to complete its 2015 recruiting class. The Tigers currently have 17 commits, with room to add a few more names before signing day.
LSU recently rose into the top 10 of the national recruiting ranks thanks to a big get: in-state recruit Tyron Johnson, a five-star wide receiver from New Orleans. He’s the top-ranked player in Louisiana, the third straight year the Tigers have brought in their home state’s top prospect. Johnson adds to a young, talented receiving corps that includes last year’s No. 2 receiver nationally, Malachi Dupre.
The Tigers were heavy on freshman in 2014, thanks to a slew of early departures in 2012 and 2013, but won’t see quite as many losses going into 2015. One place where they could use help is on the defensive line, where both defensive end starters will likely be gone. The Tigers only have one current commit on the defensive line, three-star defensive end Isaiah Washington, although they are targeting a few other touted prospects there.
Other than Johnson, LSU’s class is headlined by two other five-star commits, cornerback Kevin Tolliver and offensive lineman Maea Teuhema, who joins brother Sione on the Tigers. Four-star running back Derrius Guice also put on a show in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, giving LSU fans a glimpse of a potentially devastating partner for Leonard Fournette.
Here’s a look at the Tigers full list of commits for 2015:
