South Carolina summer enrollee D.J. Neal and five-star Georgia signee Terry Godwin were each selected by the Atlanta Braves in the MLB Draft on Wednesday, coming off the board in the 32nd and 33rd rounds, respectively.
Neal, a four-star from Stone Mountain, Ga., spoke with Steve Spurrier and Gamecocks baseball coach Chad Holbrook about playing two sports before he signed.
“Baseball is a passion of mine and I’ve actually already been in coach Holbrook’s office and the locker room,” Neal told The State. “He let me know that outfield spots are open and I could come in and try for the position.”
Godwin attended a private workout at Turner Field earlier this month and his father, according to the AJC, said the dynamic playmaker would weigh his options if drafted high.
Neither is expected to sign, but each player has until July 17 to make a decision.
USC football incoming freshman WR D.J. Neal, was drafted by the Braves today in the 32nd round.
