Auburn is losing one commitment from its 2016 class due to academic reasons.

According to AL.com’s Drew Champlin, defensive end Daquan Newkirk, a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, will begin his career in junior college.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn assisted Newkirk in his decision as he’ll enroll at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Despite the loss of the Orlando, Fla., product, Newkirk still says he’s committed to playing for the Tigers in the future.

Auburn’s 2016 class isn’t exactly hurting for talent at defensive end. The Tigers currently have four others at the position committed, including five-star strongside DE Marlon Davidson, four-star weakside DE Paul James and two three-star prospects on the right side in Nick Coe and David Marshall.
