Though Auburn doesn’t pass the ball much these days, senior WR Tony Stevens was still noticeably absent from Saturday night’s 40-29 victory over Ole Miss.

Coach Gus Malzahn told the Ledger-Enquirer that Stevens probably could have played on Saturday, but it wasn’t worth the risk:

“He got hurt last week,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. “He tried to practice on Tuesday and he was still hurting. We felt like we’d let him see what he could do in pregame he just wasn’t ready to go. Hopefully he will be ready to go next week.”

Stevens leads the Tigers with 24 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Auburn’s next game is a home contest on Saturday at noon Eastern time against Vanderbilt. If all goes according to plan, Stevens should be on the field then.
