Auburn DB waiting for chance to return to RB

Auburn DB Rudy Ford has proven his value to the Tigers on defense, leading the team in tackles each of the last two seasons.

But the senior will do whatever his team needs him to do, even if it involves a move back to running back, the position he was originally recruited to play out of high school.

According to a 247Sports article, Ford may be itching to give offense another shot:

“Oh man,” he said with a laugh in a post-practice interview Friday. “That’s just one of those things, (where) if he does, I’ll be right there waiting.”

Ford sounds like he thinks he’d be able to fit in quickly on offense:

“Not long at all,” when asked how long it would take him to get used to playing running back again.

Kerryon Johnson is the favorite to earn the starting job for the Tigers, and freshman DB Stephen Davis Jr. has already made the switch to running back, so there’s probably a lot that needs to happen for Ford to switch sides of the ball.

Plus, coach Gus Malzahn was pretty clear on Thursday about Ford’s status:

However, it sounds like Ford will be ready if his number gets called at some point this fall.
