Auburn landed a big addition to its 2026 recruiting class on Saturday, as former Florida State pledge Devin Carter committed to the Tigers during the Navy All-American Bowl.
Carter is a 4-star recruit and a top-30 prospect nationally out of Douglasville (Ga.) County. He picked Auburn over Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State. Here’s video of Carter announcing his commitment:
Carter is ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 29 overall recruit in the class of 2026 by 247Sports’ composite rankings. And he has major connections to the Florida State program: his father, Dexter, was a running back there in the mid-to-late 1990s and was the Seminoles’ running backs coach from 2007-2010. The younger Carter eventually committed to the Noles in April 2023.
However, in January 2024, Carter opted to reopen his recruitment, leading to his decision to pledge to Auburn on Saturday. He becomes the sixth known recruit to pledge to Auburn’s 2026 class, joining a group that includes fellow wideout Denairius Gray and top-10 edge rusher Hezekiah Harris.
Auburn, as a program, is coming off back-to-back 7-loss seasons under Hugh Freeze, finishing 6-7 in 2023 and 5-7 in 2024. Freeze and the Tigers will be facing massive expectations in 2025 as they welcome the No. 6 recruiting class in the country to campus. Freeze has also been active in the portal, with quarterback Jackson Arnold (Oklahoma) and running back Durell Robinson headlining a group of 15 incoming transfers.
