With a punishing running game that chewed up the time of possession with 36 minutes and 78 plays, Auburn pulled off a rare feat in college football.

The 26-14 win over Alabama meant Auburn became the ninth team in the history of the AP poll to beat multiple top-ranked teams by double figures in the same season. This result was Auburn’s biggest margin of victory in the Iron Bowl since winning 49-26 in 1969. Auburn now moves on to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta to play a Georgia team it beat 40-17 on Nov. 11 when the Bulldogs were ranked No. 1.

Auburn took advantage of the Crimson Tide making a host of key mistakes that derailed a chance at a fourth consecutive SEC title and playoff berth.

Auburn, meanwhile, was 9-for-18 on third down and kept Alabama at 3-for-11 in the same situation.
